About Us

The Requeza Education Center located in the coastal city of Encinitas in northern San Diego County, houses Sunset High School, a small, student-centered alternative campus within the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD), serving students in grades 9–12. Guided by the school motto, Respect and Responsibility, Sunset cultivates a positive, supportive learning environment.

At the heart of Sunset’s educational model is an advisory system that ensures every student is known, supported, and empowered. All staff members, including teachers, counselors, and administrators, serve as advisors to small groups of students, fostering daily connections that promote accountability, personal growth, and academic progress.

Sunset High School offers a rigorous, standards-based curriculum aligned with district graduation requirements and the California Department of Education. With a 4:1 student-to-computer ratio, small class sizes, and personalized instruction, Sunset provides an academically rich and technologically supported learning environment.

Students attend Sunset for a variety of reasons including credit recovery, early graduation, or the desire for a more intimate, customized learning experience. Regardless of their path, each student is welcomed into a diverse, inclusive school culture where they are challenged, supported, and prepared for success beyond high school.
